How we got these numbers

1. Tesla network. The model gives Tesla 30 cents of every fare dollar and adds the $200 monthly self-driving subscription. Tesla hasn't published final terms for privately owned Cybercabs, so we use the high end of the share that has been reported.

2. CarsTXT monthly fee. per car per month, the same amount whether the car drives a little or a lot. The fee pays for a reserved parking bay, all depot charging up to 900 kWh a month, a cabin reset whenever the car comes in to charge, two deep cleans and a weekly exterior wash, and routine shop work: tires, rotations, alignments, brake pads and rotors, the 12-volt battery, filters, fluids and wipers. The optional fleet management app, coming soon, will add per car per month: a web and phone app showing each car's rides, earnings, charging and service history, with monthly statements.

3. Insurance, registration and financing. Commercial coverage is set at a month. Registration uses the Texas base fee of about $51 plus the state's $200 yearly electric-vehicle fee, divided by twelve. The financed option borrows the full price plus 6.25% Texas motor vehicle sales tax over four years at 7.5%, with no down payment.

4. Manufacturer repairs. Glass, door hardware, electronics and similar work goes to Tesla. We set aside a month for it. A car driving robotaxi miles will leave the standard warranty mileage behind early in its first year.

Rides and miles. Cars work 350 days a year for roughly 15 hours a day. A typical trip is 5.5 paid miles, and cars drive about half that distance again empty between trips.

Upfront cash. Buying outright costs about $32,360 per car: $30,000 for the vehicle, $1,875 sales tax, roughly $33 to title it and $451 to register it, because Texas collects two years of the EV fee on a new car. Financing reduces the day-one cash to the title and registration.

Benchmark. Waymo has reported roughly 24 trips per vehicle per day. Our middle scenario assumes 17.

Illustrative only. Not investment advice. Figures will change once Tesla network terms, Austin Energy rates and Cybercab pricing are final.
